To find out the name and contact details of your new Personal Tutor/AA (Academic Assessor) or Programme Leader, email our Nursing & Midwifery Programme Support team who will be able to help: Health-Administration@salford.ac.uk
We will send you a Returners’ Onboarding Checklist created by our Student Onboarding Team to get you programme and placement ready! Everything needs to be completed in order to be cleared for placement, so we want you to be able to get a head start - especially because in some programme year planners, first placement could start promptly in the first few weeks. The checklist includes:
- Criteria for Occupational Health screening
- New Immunisations
- DBS checks if your DBS will be older than 5 years by the time you are expected to complete your course
- Uniform sizing
- Basic Life Support & Moving and Handling face-to-face training (if your interruption was longer than 9 months)
- Core Skills eLfH, and,
- the Good Health & Good Conduct declaration

We have Student Progression Advisors (SPAs) for nursing, nursing associate, midwifery students and a dedicated SPA for international students. SPAs offer all different types of support, you can book an appointment for help with topics including:
- 1:1 Appointments: Meet with SPAs in person, over the phone, or online - email: HS-SPA@salford.ac.uk
- Academic Support: To help ensure you get the support you need to succeed.
- Monitoring Attendance and Engagement: To offer early support if needed, and ensure you are attending university.
- Tailored Advice: To help with academic challenges, wellbeing, or life events.
- Wellbeing Support: SPAs are there if you need someone to talk to, and can help with referrals to university support services.
Yes! We know how important it is to build back your confidence after an interruption in study. Some students have also asked if they can attend a clinical skills session during their interruption too as a 'keeping in touch' day. The University of Salford Simulation and Clinical Skills team will be more than happy to help you. They can signpost you to a calendar of pop-up Sim & Skill Enhancement Labs and the new Student Practice Area where students can practice skills independently without a facilitator Healthsociety-simulationandskillsteam@salford.ac.uk

We have designated safe places for students to express and store milk - both at Frederick Road and the main campus. On return to your programme, your personalised Pregnancy, Maternity, New Parenthood & Adoption Support Plan should be reviewed and updated with the Programme Leader. This will then include details of support to be arranged e.g. meetings with key staff, peer support with other student parents, breastfeeding facilities.
If you have had a caesarean section, you are not able to return to clinical placement until a minimum of six weeks from giving birth unless you have a GP fit note.
Yes - you will be able to join a dedicated MS Teams site where you can meet and chat to other students who have returned from an interruption or break in learning. This idea was suggested by previous students to help develop a sense of belonging and a new community. You can also ask your new Personal Tutor / Programme Leader for a peer support buddy in the cohort/personal tutor group you are joining.
